Free period products for students across Canada

FAQ

Common questions.

Straightforward answers for students, families, and schools.

For students

What should I do if my period starts at school and I don’t have a pad?

Go to the school office, guidance office, or school nurse, or ask a teacher you trust. Most schools keep products for exactly this situation, and staff are used to helping. A friend may also have a spare. It is a very common situation, and there is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Is it normal for my periods to be irregular?

Yes. It is common for periods to be irregular for the first year or two. If you have concerns, such as very heavy bleeding or severe pain, talk to a doctor, nurse, or a trusted adult.

Who can I talk to if I have questions?

A parent or guardian, your school nurse or guidance counsellor, or a doctor. You can also reach Kids Help Phone any time, for free and in confidence, at 1-800-668-6868 or by texting CONNECT to 686868.

Do I have to explain why I need a product?

No. Products we provide to schools are there for anyone who needs them, no questions asked.

About Flowing Purple

Who runs Flowing Purple?

Flowing Purple is youth-led and was founded by Angie, a high school student in Ontario. A trusted adult manages the bank and payment accounts.

Where do the products go?

Directly into schools across Canada, starting in Ontario. We deliver to a named contact, such as a guidance counsellor, and record every delivery.

How is the work funded?

Through the sale of a $5 backpack pin. Each pin helps provide X pads. Our Terms explain how that figure is calculated.

Do you issue tax receipts?

No. Buying a pin is a purchase rather than a donation, so tax receipts are not issued.

For schools and families

How can a school receive products?

Any Canadian school may submit a request on our Impact page. Fulfilment depends on supply and delivery, and we prioritize schools with the greatest need.

Is there any cost or obligation for schools?

No. Products are free, and a school is named publicly only with its permission.

How can my child volunteer?

Students can apply on our Mission page. Applicants under 16 need permission from a parent or guardian.

How do I have personal information removed?

Email hello@flowingpurple.org. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information.
